(I guess I should open this with a sentence that makes it clear that this is just “my” “Bandcamp Radio”, not an actual “Bandcamp™” Radio. It just made sense to refer to it as a “Bandcamp Radio” since that's what I use it as. Plus, it's more catchy then “Music That I Like That Is Available On Bandcamp”.
Songdrop has become my go to way —when I remember— of keeping track of the music I like on the internet (or even, songs I think I like enough to come back and listen to some more when I have more time to absorb). You can save the gems you come across during internetting around on Bandcamp, Soundcloud and Youtube, and collect / organize them all into nice little playlists (playlists like the last three links). And then you can listen back to your playlists and reminisce about how you totally forgot how amazing that song was. At least that's what I use it for. And it has reminded me of many a tune that would have otherwise been lost in the daily waves of media that come crashing the beach every day.
Anyways… Songdrop is pretty damn handy and really well done, so I quite fancy the service. Especially since exfm seems to be slowly sinking (which is sad). I mean, it's been months since I've been able to heart a track from a Bandcamp page… which has sort of killed the 'Bandcamp Radio on Exfm' thing I was attempting to do so many moons ago.
Now, the above player doesn't hold all the tracks that you'll find in the ever increasing playlist that is 'Bandcamp Radio on Songdrop' (it seems embedded players can only hold the first 28)… but it's still not a bad way to soundtrack some of your day. BUT, if you'd really like to soundtrack a long stretch of your day and get the most variety out of the full gauntlet of tunes on there, follow these simple steps:
- Go to the 'Bandcamp Radio on Songdrop' page.
- Scroll all the way down, until no more songs will load (the last song you see should be 'Interns' by Nerves Junior).
- Then press 'Play' on any track and select the 'Shuffle / Random' button on the bottom player.
You've now got hours of great tunes*, all of which are available on Bandcamp. So when you hear something you like, make sure you follow the link back to the artists Bandcamp page and show them some love.
And I will try to remember to keep 'dropping' more great tunes into that list (as this is by no means even close to covering all the amazing stuff already out there and soon to be coming… but it's not a bad start).
*your opinion on what a great tune is may vary from me
