EPISODE 047 went up on Mixcloud on Monday (and it should be showing up on iTunes any minute now, if you want to go subscribe now) and today I start the 'few tracks at a time' ramblings about the 15/20 songs that are not Xmas songs (here's the 5/20 songs that taste a little of eggnog). So, plug the headphones on and give a listen to these 3 gems…
When it came time to put together EPISODE 47, I was torn about whether to go full Christmas, no Christmas, or a little bit of both. This brand new ditty from Gorgeous Bully helped me seal the deal on deciding to go a little bit of both. You see, I was in TK MAXX —which for any Canadians reading this, that's England's version of Winners— and I was in a massive queue of people waiting to purchase their xmas gifts. I had my headphones on, as going into department stores this time of year without your headphones on is ear suicide, and 'Love Song For Someone Else' came on and the chorus took on a Christmas related meaning: “Cause I spend all my time waiting in line for you”. And that's the story behind how EPISODE 47 went from “should I go full Xmas?” to “you don't need to go full Xmas to maintain an Xmas-ish vibe”.
I had been hoping Generationals latest album would make its way onto Bandcamp for awhile now… and then the other day I checked again, and there it was. So I guess, despite what the naysayers would try and tell you, hoping does still work. This is good news, especially considering that Christmas is just around the corner and I've been doing a whole lot of hoping lately. Really looking forward to all those other 'hopes' to come to fruition any day now. In the meantime, I'll just be jamming to the latest catchy gem from these guys. Tapping my feet and waiting.
Awhile back, I made myself promise to myself that we would not buy anymore cassette tapes until we actually had in our possession one of those things that could actually play cassette tapes. We were doing well with this promise until Lowpines went and released their lovely music on a limited to 25, individually hand-drawn sleeve cassette tape (FYI - there's only a few left). I guess it was my own fault for trying to make a resolution prior to the first of January.
Well, that's it for today. If you made it down here without clicking on anything above, you should probably head back up and correct that. Maybe even buy the artist a metaphorical pint if you like what you hear. And while we're listing things you should do if you haven't already, you should also probably go listen to the episode that these tracks feature on. And then I'll be back to talk about the rest of the songs from the episode that I haven't already talked about later this and next week. OK? ok.
