EPISODE 047 went up on the interwebs at the start of last week (you can stream it on Mixcloud and/or snag it on iTunes) and today I wrap up my 'few tracks at a time' ramblings about the remaining songs I've yet to ramble about. Since I'll be catching a bus to the airport around midnight, and since I still have a lot of things to wrap up before then, I'm going to be a bit quick with the ramblings today. So just pretend I wrote something insightful about each track as you give them a listen…
This lovely track always ends up in my headphones around this time of year. Why? Well, I usually find myself making some sort of 'winter' mix, which usually ends with me searching my iTunes library for tracks with "winter" in them. And then I see this Red Alder track and go "oh yeah, this tune". I then pop it into my 'Listen Now' playlist and it stays synched to my phone for a good few months. You should do the same.
Speaking of tracks that I always come back to during this time of year because they have "winter" in the title and because they sound especially fitting when bundled up in layers...
I don't remember exactly when or where I got the album that this track is off of... but I'm pretty sure it was on Bandcamp back in the day. It's not there any more. Or anywhere else it seems. So I guess you'll have to file listening to The White Album's album called 'The Album' in the 'Lost Because I Snoozed' folder.
By now, you've probably worked out that I was searching "winter" when putting together this Xmas-ish themed episode of Mix Tape Radio. And by “you've probably worked out” I guess I really mean “you've already read twice”.
So, what did you all think of the new Damien Rice album? My first impression was that I wish it was more like the first album. I was really hoping there'd be a return to that raw & intimate vibe that 'O' had, but this new one feels a lot more grander. Oh well, maybe I just need to listen a few more times and it'll grow on me.
Well, that's it from me for today and probably for 2014. If you made it down here without clicking on anything above, you should probably head back up and correct that. Maybe even buy the artist a metaphorical pint if you like what you hear. And while we're listing things you should do if you haven't already, you should also probably go listen to the episode that these tracks feature on.
I haven't decided if I'll be posting my '150 Favourites From 2014' 3 part 8tracks mix tape before the end of the year, or if I'll just wait until I'm back on english soil in 2015 (I'm leaning towards waiting until 2015). So if I don't internet see you until then, Happy Christmas and Merry New Year and All That Stuff to any of you that both read this blog and make it all the way to the bottom of a post!
