Favourite Albums Of 2010 - an 8tracks Mix

Given there are only a couple weeks left in the year, I figured it would be safe enough to post my favourite albums from 2010 now (yes, I know there is an EP in there). It was another good year for music, which I’m pretty sure will be the trend until humans manage to entirely kill ourselves off entirely. People like making and listening to music, it is in our blood.

People also like to list things. I don’t know what it is, but there is something soothing about putting things into a list. Not only do I like putting things in a list, but I also enjoy reading other people’s lists. It’s a great way to realize that not only did I not even come close to listening to all the music that was released this year, I also did not have near enough time to fully absorb all the ones I did listen to. This is why I much prefer thinking of my list as ‘my favourites of 2010’ and not as ‘the best of 2010’ (although I did read an interesting post on that very subject earlier today).

I think the most enjoyable way to experience someone’s musical reminiscing is by listening to it, not by reading (again) what they thought about it. This is why I put my list together as a mix tape. Now, the most common way to do a year end list is to start at the bottom and work your way down to the number one slot, but that logic doesn’t hold true when making a mix tape. So, when listening to this mix tape, it’s important to note that it starts at number one and works its way down to 25. I realize that is very anti-climatic, but then again, I don’t think reversing that order would bring anyone to climax either. It is just meant to be a sweet mix tape to listen to.

I tried my best to maintain some sort of ‘order of favourite’, but I will fully admit that on any given day, the order could change slightly and the albums would still mean the same to me. That being said, I am willing to go out on a limb and say the following:

  • Titus Andronicus released the best album of the year
  • Kanye’s album may very well have been ambitiously perfect, but it didn’t shake my soul to the core as much as it seemed to do with everyone else
  • The Arcade Fire released the album that was the most cool to be underwhelmed by
  • Best Coast schmest coast
