[BELOW IS THE NEWSLETTER THAT GETS SENT OUT TO THE LOVELY FOLKS WHO'VE SIGNED UP TO RECEIVE IT. CLICK HERE IF YOU'RE NOT ONE YET…]
Well holy shit. Just like that it is now 2016. Which is kinda crazy. But it also is kinda not crazy, as this exact same thing happens every year around this time. Crazy or not, I hope you had a great 2015 and I hope that this new one will be even better!
[I know, how original; wishing someone an even happier New Year is the exact thing everyone always says when they send out a newsletter around the 1st of January. But I really do mean it. Or, rather, I really don’t not mean it.]
But enough chit chat —or "snik snak" as the Danish lessons I am taking has learned me, even though my Danish girlfriend has told me that no one in Denmark actually says “snik snak”— here are some things that you might find worth clicking on…
10 THINGS OF POSSIBLE INTEREST FOR YOU…
Does a year truly end, if no one creates a list of their favourite things? I guess we'll never know, as I made some lists this year and, after doing so, the year ended. The first one I will link you to is '2X15 - 30 FAVOURITES FROM 2015', which is an 8tracks playlist I made that consists of (you guessed it) 30 of my favourite musical things from the year 2015. That mix also exists in Mixcloud form, if you prefer listening that way.
If a playlist of 30 tracks is not enough of an audio look back at the year 2015, I also made something called '20X15 - 300 TUNES FROM 2015' on Spotify. As you may have inferred from the title, it contains 300 songs from the year just gone. It makes for a good “throw on shuffle” option during your next day at the office (or your 1st “sick day” of 2016).
I was not the only one getting into year end list making. Two of my favourites, year after year, are the ones put together over on Gold Flake Paint and Wake The Deaf. Plenty of great stuff to discover there, so you should put on your Discovering Hat and go check them out.
Have you watched Making A Murderer on Netflix yet? If your answer is “no”, then you need to go do that. Seriously. Go now and come back to this newsletter in 10 hours. In the meantime, I will continue to try and be a decent person and not say anything that may spoil your viewing pleasure… but I don’t know how much longer I can do that (and I can't make any promises for others shouting out spoilers). Lately, I've been finding it really hard to not talk about Making A Murderer whenever it is my turn to talk in the conversation.
And while talking about Making A Murderer with other folks who have seen it or while recommending it to those who have not, I was reminded that not everyone has listened and watched the same things as everyone else, no matter how popular they seem. So, if Making A Murderer has you in the mood for similar tales of “WTF I Can't believe this?!”, you should really seek out The Jinx (greatest ending a documentary could ever hope for) and season 1 of Serial if you haven't already.
Did you know that there is going to be a "spiritual sequel" to Dazed & Confused, set in the 80s? I'm not bowled over by the trailer, but Linklater is usually pretty consistent & I still love the original, so I am still kinda excited about this. More so than Star Wars, but hey, you do you.
Did you know that in 2015 I posted 235 Fandcamp posts (aka fan recommended Bandcamp gems)? You can peruse them all here (I guarantee that you will like at least 1 of the 235 that were posted).
I read a lot of Calvin & Hobbes as a kid, ipso facto I was a lonely child.
It's never a bad time to watch this inspiring video inspired from an inspiring Charlie Kaufman speech, but watching it at the start of a brand new year seems like the best time to do so.
Speaking of things that are best served at the start of a New Year… this Harlem Shakes song always ends up on repeat in these ears around this time & I recommend you also make it your New Year-ly habit as well.
Well, that's enough from me. Feel free to get back at me with your favourite things from the last year or your plans for the new one or your theories on who did what on Making A Murderer.
I hope that you will either continue OR start to pop over to the website(and the Facebook and the Twitter and the Tumblr and the Mixcloud and the 24hr Internet Radio Station and the Instagram) on a regular basis, and I will do my best to try and keep this newsletter going on a bi-weekly basis (we're at a streak of 2!) and we will do this all again in 14 days or so. Yeah? Yeah!
