If you ever get a chance to see Justin Townes Earle play live, I highly recommend it. Especially if you hear he's playing a solo acoustic show (although I'm sure he is just as amazing with a full band).
I got to see him in a tiny room, with just him and his guitar on stage the whole show. And he blew me away. I don't know why, but I guess I wasn't expecting his guitar playing to be so amazing.
This isn't footage from our show, but this is kind of what it was like.
And the best part of all was that the tracks from his new album sounded like how I was hoping his new album would sound. It's not that I don't like it (and seeing him live has got me revisiting and appreciating it), it's just it lost that 'proper country' sound that was more prevalent in the early albums. He said at the show that he writes all his songs on the guitar by himself and he just didn't want to make a honkey tonk record because he doesn't want to be associated with 'country' artists these days, as 'country' music hasn't been good since the 70's.
Which makes sense. Except that he's really good at making 'country' music.
